Caring for your Candles

How to get the most out of your new candle.

Trim the Wick

To ensure optimal burn performance, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each lighting. This helps to prevent excess soot buildup, which can occur with any candle. This is especially important for hand-poured candles, like ours, since we use a higher concentration of fragrance oils for a richer scent and longer-lasting burn. Proper wick maintenance is essential. A trimmed wick helps control the flame size and heat, minimizing soot and reducing the risk of the flame becoming too large or hot. In worst case scenarios, an untrimmed wick can cause the jar to overheat, potentially leading to breakage and/or a spreading flame.

Proper Burning

For the optimal experience, allow your candle to burn long enough on the first light to reach the edge of the jar, creating a full, even pool of melted wax. This prevents tunneling, where wax burns unevenly down the middle, reducing the life of your candle. Ideally, aim for this result with every burn. Avoid burning your candle for more than 3–4 hours at a time, as this is usually when you notice the wick mushrooming. Mushrooming is a buildup of carbon and is normal. Avoid placing candles in drafty areas, as drafts can cause uneven burning, and usually burns the candle quickly.

Safety Hazards

Hazards

Never leave burning candles unattended. Worst case scenarios are always possible. Burn safely.

Keep candles out of reach of children, they love to play with things they aren’t supposed to, especially toddlers.

Keep out of reach of cat claws and dog tails. Curious cats may try to smack the candles around

.

Place on a sturdy surface.

By following these simple steps, you’ll not only extend the life of your candles but also create a safer, more enjoyable environment. Burn safely and responsibly!
